The sci-tech abstract is the most essential part to help the readers to index the documents with the assistance of database. In view of the fact that intentional indexing systems always attach much attention to English abstracts, a high quality English abstract is supposed to facilitate the paper to be retrieved or cited and expand its active influence among foreign readership. This report is a research and analysis on the translation process and behavior at the target of abstracts in Equipment for Electronic Products Manufacturing.This thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter one provides a brief description of the translation project. Chapter two shows the translating process. It mainly deals with preparation of abstract translation, difficulties in translation and revision in the process of translating. It discusses three major difficulties in translation process, which involves the corresponding choice of terminologies and the textual restructuring based on mental disparities as well as accuracy beyond language barriers. Chapter three presents the theoretic background of translation project They are theory of text typology and functionalist skopos theory. Chapter four is the main part of this report, and it’s about case analysis and discussion based on C-E abstract translation for Equipment for Electronic Products Manufacturing. The cases are analyzed respectively on lexical level, syntactic level and textual level.This report contributes the proper translation strategies and methods with the guidance of functionalist theory, especially in dealing with the typical difficulties based on mental disparities in sci-tech abstract translation. To some extent, this report contributes a lot to studying some certain aspects of sci-tech abstract translation.
