With the accelerating pace of China’s opening up to the outside world, there aremore and more studies on intercultural communication between China and foreign countries.Zhang Ling is a typical representative of Canadian Chinese literary circle. In her novels, she portrays a large number of new immigrants who participate in the intercultural communication activities between China and Canada, and she has made unremitting efforts to integrate into the foreign life. Therefore,it is of unique value to study the intercultural communication through her novels about new immigrants. This paper takes all kinds of immigrant life in Zhang Ling’s new immigrant novels as the research material to explore what conflicts and obstacles Chinese will have when they communicate with each other in foreign countries.By summarizingand sorting out the parts of the text that reflect the content of intercultural communication,it is found that two sides of communication often have some conflicts. The causes of these conflicts can be summarized as the influence of differences in language ability, values, ways of thinking, cultural background and interpersonal communication. Therefore,on the premise of text analysis, based on these influencing factors, this paper classifies the phenomena of cross-cultural communication conflicts in the text, which is not only the enrichment of cross-cultural communication conflict cases, but also the collation of the reasons affecting cross-cultural communication. At the same time,it can be found in the cross-cultural communication phenomena of text analysis that in addition to the conflict and contradiction, the novel phenomena also show a certain degree of cultural fusion.Although contradictions exist, the trend of integration and coexistence is inevitable. In the process of living in a foreign country, new immigrants constantly improve their language and interpersonal skills through their own efforts, and increase their in-depth understanding of heterogeneous cultures,so that they can better integrate into the foreign society. In addition,Zhang Ling’s cross-border writing of religion and her open and inclusive mentality are also important manifestations of cross-cultural communication from conflict to integration.Through the analysis of these intercultural communication phenomena in the text, both Chinese immigrants and TCSL teachers can get some enlightenment. As long as you maintain an open and tolerant attitude, continuously enhance your understanding of the language, culture, and psychology of both parties, and enrich the forms of communication and teaching methods, you can better improve your own cross-cultural communication skills and become a better cross-cultural communicator.
