Difficulties And Coping Tactics Of Liaison Interpreting For Business Negotiation

With the rapid advancement of China's economy,business exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries have become increasingly frequent,making interpreters more and more important and also in greater demand.However,the nature of interpreting activities determines that interpreters will inevitably encounter difficulties during interpreting.Therefore,it is of great importance to provide coping tactics to deal with these difficulties.In business negotiation,liaison interpreting is often used.This paper is a report on the liaison interpreting task of 2018 China-Israel Investment Conference in which the author served as an interpreter.In this report,the author introduces the interpreting task,including the introduction to the task background,features of the task,users of the interpreting and the interpreter.Then,the report elaborates the task process,including pre-task preparation,interpreting process and post-task summary.Pre-task preparation plays an essential role in interpreting.Post-task summary is also quite important for an interpreter to achieve better performance in the future.In the main parts,the author makes an in-depth analysis of the difficulties encountered and the coping tactics during the task.In the author's interpreting practice,she encountered difficulties including unknown corresponding expressions,unknown terminology,strong accent,interruption and memory pressure caused by long segments.Under the framework of the Skopos Theory,the author came up with some coping tactics,including addition,enquiry,generalization and omission.This report aims to give an example of business liaison interpreting practice based on the author's experience and make some suggestions to peers on liaison interpreting for business negotiation.
