The source text of this translation practice is from Lester R.Brown's The Great Transition: Shifting from Fossil Fuels to Solar and Wind Energy, which focuses on the gradual transition from fossil fuels to solar and wind energy around the world. The translator selects the fifth chapter and the sixth chapter as the source text of the translation, which mainly introduce the development of solar and wind energy in many countries.Energy problem is one of the three major problems in the world today. Therefore,it is meaningful to understand the development process of energy. There are 64 parentheses in the excerpt of the source text(Chapter 5 and Chapter 6).Because of the flexibility and diversity of parentheses, the sentence structure is varied. Therefore,it is sometimes difficult to understand the source text.In order to ensure the readability of the translation, dealing with the translation of the parentheses is the most important problem.Under the guidance of Nida's Functional Equivalence theory, the translator does not seek the complete correspondence with the form of the source text, but the functional equivalence between the two languages. Therefore, the translator adopts four translation methods to solve the difficulties in the translation of parentheses, which are linear translation, adding brackets,post-position,and preposition. This report aims to study the translation methods of parentheses, hoping to provide references for the translation of similar texts.
