Report On The Translation Of Delaware Law Of Domestic Relations(Excerpt)

Based on the translation of Delaware Law of Domestic Relations(excerpt)and the guiding theory of semantic and communicative translation,this translation report tries to discuss the translation problems in terms of lexicon,sentence and text.This translation report contains four parts.The first part is task description including selection of translation material,research objective,significance and key problems to be solved.The second part is process description consisting of pre-translation preparations and process of translation.The third part is case analysis,which mainly analyzes translation strategies adopted when solving translation problems on three levels under the guidance of semantic and communicative translation.Lexical translation pays attention to translation of legal terminology,fuzzy words and modal words based on semantic translation,sentential translation emphasizes translation of adverbial clauses,attributive clauses and parallel construction through semantic and communicative translation,and textual translation discusses translation of text structure and cohesion devices relying on communicative translation.The fourth part,summarizing the whole report,comes to a conclusion that legal English translation should take into account both semantic and communicative translation.Semantic translation is adopted to achieve accuracy of meaning and communicative translation to reach smoothness of translation.
