Dialogue interpreting,as a field of inquiry which has attracted increasing attention in recent years, describes the interpreting events for interpreter-mediated encounters between participants who do not share a common language. As indicated, the interpreter is not merely a bridge or channel to pass messages but also a coordinator in the organization of talks or dialogues, either implicitly or explicitly. The roles and interpreting competence of an interpreter are thus vital to the success of such face-to-face communication.Based on the interpreter's interpreting experiences in similar encounters during a 21-day agricultural training seminar, this paper aims to discuss the roles and coordination of the interpreter in such encounters, especially during Q&A sessions. Therefore, this paper examines the interpreter's problems in dialogue interpreting during four selected lectures by conducting discourse analysis from the perspective of accuracy, role performance and coordination respectively, and then puts forward corresponding coping strategies in hope of providing practical references for future student interpreters who might be engaged in similar encounters. It should be noted that in dialogue interpreting, what matters most is the success of the interaction and the interpreter's choices of omission, additions or substitutions can be either problems or strategies in interpreting based on their functions to the communicative effects in the dialogue.
