Practice Study Report On E-C Translation Of Tech News For Huanqiu.Com

On the basis of Peter Newmark’s Text Typology and his Translation Theory, this practice study report, which research object is the author’s translation version for news website (huanqiu.com), delves into how to translate the English tech news effectively.Based on the functions of language, Peter Newmark proposes three main texts types. He suggests that communicative and semantic translation should be adopted in the translation of type of text. In the type of text, the English tech news should be grouped into the category of informative text. For the translation of tech news, the translator should translate the source language accurately and take target readers’ reaction into account. Thus, flexible translation methods and strategies should be applied into the translation of tech news, while the communicative translation is a predominant method.This study report comprises four main chapters. Chapter one is a brief introduction of translation task as well as the features of tech news. Chapter two is a description of translation process. It includes pre-translation period, translation and post-translation period. Chapter three is the application of Newmark’s Text Typology and Translation Theory in translation of tech news. According to Newark, text can be classified into three main types based on the functions of language. In term of text types, tech news belongs to informative text. Under the guide of communicative and semantic translations, the translator not only focus on the transmitting information or manage of English tech news accurate and effective, but also makes the translation version to evoke the reaction of target readers. Chapter four is the case study. The author analyzes some translation difficulties in the translation of tech news, such as the translation of news headlines, leads etc. and suggested translation strategies and methods which are addition and deletion of news headlines, translating the first paragraph and the first two paragraphs of news leads, reserve-order and division of long sentences etc. are provided.Through discussion and research, the author summarizes some methods to deal with the translation of tech news. Although drawback and limitation exist, the author sincerely hoped that this report will offer some references for the translation of the type of news in the future.
