| With the rapid development of high technology in information society and the increasing international information communication between China and other nations, much attention has been paid to English high tech news and its translation. News, as a major source for the public to be better informed about the high tech achievements and scientific knowledge for the world’s information exchange and cultural communication, has played an indispensable role in modern people’s life. Therefore, it is necessary to do translation of English high tech news.English high tech news here mainly includes nuclear fuel processing, information chemicals manufacturing, pharmaceutical industry, aviation aircraft manufacturing, electronic and communication device manufacturing, electronic computer and office equipment manufacturing, medical equipment and instrumentation manufacturing and public software services industry, etc. The text of English high tech news has its unique syntactic structures and features, with the terminologies, relatively fixed structure, strict logic and high accuracy. The report first reviews many modern translation theories abroad and at home, collects plenty of translation materials and examples, and does related researched about English high tech news translation.This report is on an English-Chinese translation practice of50pieces of news selected from High Tech News Today, a news website in English on IT technology, Linux operating systems, e-Commerce and Internet technology news. There is no Chinese version of English high tech news in the website at the present. This report first collects and sorts out the basic concepts of English high tech news, including definition, classification, lexical feature, syntactical feature and textual feature. After the literature review and summary of Reiss’s and Newmark’s Text Typology Theory guiding the translation of English high tech news, the report further sorts out translation principles to guide the practical translation of English high tech news. Then, it is to explore and summarize translation methods to solve difficulties found in the English-Chinese translation process through case study and point out linguistic theories and translation theories that the methods are based on, and further summarize the textual characteristics of English high tech news. Finally, this paper aims to draw a conclusion of translation experiences and lessons for English high tech news translation, explore translation strategies in dealing with difficulties in the translation practice and provide valuable suggestions and reference in how to represent a good translation text in the practice of English high tech news translation. |
