An Interpreting Report On Economic Discourse Based On Adaptation Theory

In recent years,with the development of China's economy,China has increased the pace of entering the global world,and the global attention has been attracted.Interpreters can be seen on many occasions,from governmental meetings,international forums,press conferences to business negotiations and cooperation or culture communications and traveling abroad.An interpreter is a bridge between people of different backgrounds of languages and cultures,helping them get across the language barriers and acquire effective communication.In reaching such a goal,it is definitely a hard task for an interpreter to convey the inner meanings that source texts contain,which requires rapid responses,strong memory and excellent expressions.As a practicer,the writer always faces many difficulties in daily interpreting practice.It is hard to recognize the information timely conveyed by the speech in such a short time,and fail to understand the meaning of notes or unable to memory the detailed noting.It was Verschueren's Adaptation Theory that aided the writer a lot.As an outstanding scholar in the field of linguistics,Verschueren proposed the Adaptation Theory,which mainly contains choices-making and three properties of language: variability,negotiability and adaptability.The Adaptability of language is described and tested from four aspects in the following study,they are structural objects of adaptability,contextual correlates of adaptability,dynamics of adaptability and salience of the adaptation process.The writer has benefited a lot from the Adaptation Theory.Therefore,the writer takes Verschueren's Adaptation Theory as a theoretical framework and practices that on Hangzhou G20 Summit Opening Remarks and the AIIB's Opening Remarks.After the comparative study into the transcriptions between the professional interpreter and the writer,the writer analyses the difficulties that existed in interpreting process and concludes four main reasons that cause the poor quality of the simultaneous interpreting: deficiency of language ability,scarcity of expertise,external interference,and poor psychological quality.The difficulties for interpreting would be handled or sorted out to great extends based on the Adaptation Theory.
