A Report On Simulated TV Simultaneous Interpreting Of "Yang Lan One On One" From The Perspective Of Adaptation Theory

In a world of media information,the audiences from around the world immediately acquire various information through live TV.Simultaneous interpreting is indispensable for the benefit of people who want to get international information from live TV across barriers of language and culture due to its immediacy.As globalization is gaining momentum,TV simultaneous interpreting has attracted greater attention from We-media,audiences and interpreters.In the report,the talk show,“Yang Lan One on One-Where Is the Way of Unmanned Vehicle”,is selected as the simulated interpreting material to be analyzed from the perspective of adaptation theory.Adaptation theory put forward by Verschueren,Belgian linguistic,is applied as the guiding theory.Verschueren mentioned in this book that the three characteristics of language,variability,negotiability and adaptability,enable the speakers to choose appropriate utterance so as to meet the need of communication.Since interpreting is a kind of communication,the interdisciplinary research has guiding significance for interpreting.In the report,the contextual correlates of adaptability is applied as the guidance to analyze strategies used in the practiceThe content of the interpreting is the talk show “Yang Lan One on One”,of which the topic is intelligent vehicle and unmanned vehicle.The objective of the task is the live convey the information to the foreign audience through the screen and voice.Adequate preparation before interpreting complete with theme preparation,terminology preparation as well as psychological preparation was made before the interpreting.During the interpreting,fluency and completeness is guaranteed.After the interpreting,the transcript was typed down the self-assessment was made.The adaptation theory was applied in the thesis.The writer analyzes the cases from the interpreting practice in the light of adaptation of linguistic context and extra-linguistic context.Through analysis of the practice,the conclusions are as follow: the characteristics of colloquialism,repetitiveness and incompleteness require the interpreter to apply explanation,replacement,syntactic linearity and other strategies to adapt the linguistic context at lexical syntax and text level.Since TV interpreting lays emphasis on completeness,faithfulness of content as well as fluency of theutterance,amplification,omission and specification are used to satisfy the mental world,physical world and culture of the audiences.The author aspires that the analysis of the practice will be one of the references for the further researches and practices of interpreting.
