A Report On C-E Translation Of Vehicle And Machinery Texts

Since the proposition and implementation of “the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road Initiative”,progress has been achieved and stability ensured in economic and social development in China.The Belt and The Road Initiative brings not only the entirely vital thinking of economic development,but also unprecedentedly various opportunities for the development of China's vehicle industry along the “B&R” region.As more and more vehicle products enter into the international market,the Chinese-English translation of vehicle and machinery texts has been playing a vital role and a large number of professional translators and interpreters with consolidated bilingual knowledge are urgently needed.On the basis of vehicle and machinery texts in this translation practice,under the guidance of A.F.Tytler's Tree Principle of translation and in the light of more than 160,000 characters achievements and experience in translation,the report is presented by the case study of translation strategies in line with the salient features of vehicle and machinery translation.More precisely,the paper points out the characteristics of high frequency of occurrence in the aspects of terminologies,pictures,tables,nullsubject sentences and the nominalization in the original texts.Concerning the features,pertinent translation strategies are put forward,such as,literal translation,conversion of word class and sentence patterns,linear translation and the usage of passive voice in translation.Based on the gains and experience in translation practice,the report is accomplished with five chapters.Chapter one is an introduction to the background and significance of the translation project and the structure of the report.Chapter two reviews the research on vehicle and machinery translation and translation theory applied in the report.Chapter three gives a detailed description of the translation project,characteristics of source text and translation process and requirements.Chapter four concentrates on the case study from the aspect of translation strategies.Chapter five summarizes major findings and limitations during translation process and report writing,which may give rise to more exhaustive studies in the future.
