The author decides to translate Improve Your Brainpower,a book co-authored by Jackie Guthrie and Tim Preston at the request of a publishing house.The book aims to exercise readers' brains in various scientific manners so as to prevent them from possible brain diseases.It is made up of several types of practical texts,rich in content and practicality.At the same time,its wording focuses on concision and logic and the content emphasizes objectiveness and correctness.Its main purpose is to effectively convey the original information.Thus,the translator should put the reader at the first place and try to convey the original information as comprehensive as possible.Based on Newmark's text typology theory,the author identifies different types of original texts and adopts relevant strategies to produce a reliable translation version.Meanwhile,the author also analyzes strategies and techniques used in the translation project.The translation report consists of six chapters.In the first chapter,the author points out the research object and problems to be solved in this report,and expounds the values of this research.The second chapter is a literature review,followed by an introduction to the theoretical basis of this report.The third chapter describes the preparations before translation in detail including the preparation of translation tools,the formulation of the entire schedule and the choice of original texts,which lays a solid foundation for this report.The fourth chapter introduces every aspect of the translation process including the in-depth understanding of the original text,the wording of target language and difficulties encountered in translation.The fifth chapter analyzes the application of Newmark's text typology theory,relevant translation strategies and techniques used in translating the book.The translator systematically analyzes the real sentences in the book form lexical and syntactic perspectives according to difficulties encountered in the process of the translation.The sixth chapter is a summary of the author's experience and lessons learned form the translation of this book..In this translation report,the translator mainly studies Newmark's text typology theory and the corresponding translation strategy in translating informative texts.It is hoped that this report would provide insights for future translation of this type of text.
