In order to inspire learners' interest and passion on Chinese learning,improve their autonomy,this study is an application study about the function of Chinese songs in Chinese listening and speaking class,according to author's teaching practice and educational background in Chinese international education and music.This study analyzed music and second language teaching,music and teaching Chinese as a second language,using Howard Gardner's The Theory of Multiple Intelligences,Stephen D.Krashen's The Affective Filter Hypothesis and Comprehensible Input as well as theories about brain and music as theoretical basis,and then studied practicability of this applied research.This study also introduced some main principles of choosing Chinese songs and compiling teaching materials,and the teaching design of class as well.According to different Chinese learners,the author uses two ways to choose songs.One way is to use popular songs and the other is to adapt or compose songs.After one semester teaching practice in elementary listening and speaking class at South China Agricultural University,the study has drew the conclusion that this teaching method has positive function and is worth to be promoted.
