This is a practice report on the Chinese–English translation of Welcome to Mengzhou City.The translating texts are publicity materials of Mengzhou City,such as the brief introduction of administration,city's cards,historical development,geographical environment,social construction,pillar industries,traffic,famous local products and tourism resources.And the author summarizes the problems and translation strategies in the process of translating.The translation project belongs to international publicity translation.It is aimed at providing English text for Mengzhou City's publicity materials,and offering convenience for foreign friends to know more about this city.And it will promote the development of economy,tourism and other industries.Many texts of translation project contain characteristic cultural backgrounds of Mengzhou City,and it is difficult to achieve references of them,so there are many problems in the process of translating.In order to ensure the quality of translation,the author analyzes the characteristics of text,searches plenty of parallel texts,uses translation tools,summarizes problems and divides problems into lexical level and sentence level.The lexical level includes four-character structure words and names of special foods and places.And the sentence level includes the sentences with redundant information,the sentences without subjects and long sentences.The author analyzes problems under the guidance of Katharina Reiss' text typology and Peter Newmark's semantic translation and communicative translation,puts forward proper translation strategies and methods,and solves problems.The author hopes that this translation project could provide some suggestions for the translation of Mengzhou City's publicity materials,provide references for the translation of relative text and translation learners,and makes international publicity translation get more attention in small-sized cities.Through this translation practice,the author reflects on the professional qualities of translator,accumulates experience for the translation of famous local products,tourism resources and other texts.And the author knows more about internationalpublicity translation,and summarizes some translation strategies on the differences between Chinese and English.
