"Mount Sanqing:the Most Beautiful Taoist Mountain in China" is a tourism material introducing Mount Sanqing,a tourist resort known as "World Natural Heritage Site" and "UNESCO Geopark".This book gives an all-round introduction to the scenic spots in Mount Sanqing scenic area,its unique Taoist culture,travel tips and information,and the attractions nearby.The author has translated this book and written this thesis based on its translation.This report firstly introduces the background and significance of the translation task and the source text.Based on the definition of tourism translation,it further provides an overview on characteristics and functions of tourism translation.In the following part,translating process including preparation before translation,understanding about the source text,material collection and consultation,translation phases and revision are discussed.Then,the author mainly conducts an in-depth analysis on how to translate the names of this beautiful Taoist mountain and different scenic spots,and then explores different methods for translating them.Specifically,the author chooses transliteration and transliteration plus literal translation for translating the name of the Taoist mountain.Methods like transliteration plus explanation,free translation and amplification are applied for translating scenic spots.In the last part,the author summarizes experience and lessons gained in this translation practice.On the basis of analysis of tourism translation and many examples,it is known that translators should understand the source text fully,express it correctly and gain the ability to translate the words with local characteristics,when they are translating tourism materials.Only in this way can they better show the scenic spots to the visitors and can the scenic spot really attract foreign visitors.
