Translation Practice Report On Metro Engineering Contract In Light Of Nord's Textual Function Theory

The cooperation in engineering projects between China and foreign countries keeps increasing with China's development of economy and technology.Sino-foreign cooperation in metro engineering project is especially speeding up,giving rise to an increase in demand of translators for such kind of text.A good translation of metro engineering text is vital to the construction of the whole project and to the development of metro industry.The original text of this translation practice is from the construction contract of Singapore Woodlands metro.The chapter 7 I chose as my translation practice material is a typically informative text,which mainly introduces the project and explains the geological condition of the construction site.So the purpose of translation is to make the target language readers,the engineers and personnel working on site,have knowledge of the general situation of the project and the geological condition of the construction site,thus guiding the planning and construction of the project.As the text focuses on delivering messages and explanation,translators must convey the information of the original text and reproduce communicative purpose of the original text in translation.In this translation practice the author,in light of Nord's textual function theory,chose proper translation strategy and translation methods to cope with the translation difficulties.The translation practice report is made up of four parts.The first part makes a general description of the translation task and the features of the text.The second part describes the translation process,including preparations before translation,translation and proofreading.The third part is about the concrete analysis of the translation cases,showing how the author chose proper translation strategy and methods under the guidance of Nord's textual function theory.The forth part is a conclusion about the translation practice.The author analyzed the text features and translation cases in this report under the guidance of Nord's textual function theory and concluded the translation methods used in translation,as well as the experience learned in translation and deficiencies ofthe translation practice.Through the translation practice,the author got rich translation experience and proved translation of metro engineering project under the guidance of Nord's textual function theory is workable.
