Starting from the Effort Model of simultaneous interpreting, the author points out for interpreting beginners with limited capability, one plausible method is to use syntactic linearity after dividing the sentence into small sense units, usually with 3 to 4 notional words for each. The benefits of applying this method can be illustrated by breaking down the Effort Model.Firstly, the interpreter will be able to distribute less effort to “listening and analysis”,since he will only need to handle one sense unit at one time.Secondly, for most of times, the interpreter will only lag behind the speaker by one sense unit, since they won't need to wait for too long to interpret. As a result,his/her short-term memory burden will be alleviated.Thirdly, due to the effort saving in the previous two parts, the interpreter will concentrate more on “production” part, and therefore, his interpreting will be more accurate. After analyzing the interpreting cases, the author also finds that this method will bring about some problems, for instance, missing or mis-interpreting of the sense units, unclear logic and low-quality Chinese expression. The author will try to propose solutions to the problems mentioned.
