Due to abstract nature in terms of language and content, and to cultural differences, translation of philosophical works, often has its own characteristics and difficulties. This poses a great challenge to the translation of philosophical texts, which in turn requires translators to improve their translation ability, and to cultivate solid foundation of bilingual languages on the basis of conceptual framework of eastern and western philosophy. The source text is an article entitled "Phenomenology of the Event: Waiting and Surprise",written by the philosopher Francoise Dastur, and translated by myself independently.I choose Vermeer's Skopos Theory as the theoretical basis of the research project, which includes three principles: the first principle is the principle of purpose, with the purpose of translation;secondly coherence rule and fidelity rule, with translation logic coherent and faithful to the original texts.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory, the purpose of translation, the coherence of translation, and the accurate expression of original ideas can be ensured, thus greatly improving the quality of translation. This report considers the translation as practical basis and Skopos Theory as theoretical principle, analyzing translation of philosophical terms, clause structure and other problems,to explain how Skopos Theory guides the translation of philosophical texts, with the skopos rule as the translation principle,to make the translation conform to Chinese expression and to accurately convey the exact meaning of the original text. The report is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is the translation project description. It mainly introduces the background conditions and significance of the translation project. The second chapter is a detailed overview of the whole translation process, including pre-translation preparation, translation process and post translation work. The third chapter is the theoretical basis of the project research, mainly elaborating the process of the development of the Skopos Theory and the analysis of the present situation of Skopos Theory research. The fourth chapter is the major of the translation practice report. From the problems of translation of vocabulary and syntax,it analyses how the Skopos Theory guides the translation practice of the philosophical text. The fifthchapter is a summary of the translation practice report. The author believes that in translating philosophical texts,we must have a good knowledge of the original text, consult the authoritative book, make sentences easily understood, split long sentences properly, and guarantee the term selection and sentence expression to make it more acceptable for target language readers.
