An Escort Interpreting Practice Report On Summer Camp For American High School Students Of Confucius Institute

As an important bridge for people speaking different languages to exchange ideas,translation and interpretation are very important.Escort interpreter not only plays the role of an interpreter,but also plays an escort role in contacting and helping solve problems during real-time communication in many fields.Hanban and Confucius Institute organize the “Chinese Bridge-Summer Camp” project together.And every summer they organize overseas students to China to study Chinese and feel the charm of Chinese culture.Organizing such kind of summer camp needs the hard work of interpreters.In July 2016,the author participated in the escort interpreting practice on summer camp for American high school students of Confucius institute.This practice report mainly discusses the actual problems the author encountered in the process,analyzes the interpreting problems combining concrete cases and summarizes the corresponding solutions based on this interpreting task.This practice report is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is the introduction of escort interpretation task,including the background of the task,the introduction and description of the entrusting company and the specific escorting task and related requirements.The second chapter is the description of the process.The author describes the preparation for the interpretation,the phases of the interpretation and the evaluation after the interpretation.Interpreting preparation mainly includes the preparation of the relevant background knowledge,terminology,theory and the preparation of psychology and emergency for this task.The sufficient preparation will lay the foundation for the development of interpreting practice.The third chapter is the core part of this practice report.The author summarizes and analyzes the interpretation problems related to historical and cultural information encountered in the escort interpreting practice.This chapter analyzes the problems with specific cases from the aspects of the interpretation of the names of historical figures,ancient relics and Chinese customs.The paper expounds the problems in the cases,analyzes the reasons,puts forward the coping solutions,and summarizes the related interpretation strategies.Chapter Four makes a summary for the task.The author sums up the experience in the process of interpreting,the related thoughts on the unsolved problems in practice,thequalities the escort interpreters should have and the inspiration and prospect for the future study and work.The problems and coping solutions in this practice report are expected to provide some experience and reference for the similar study in future.
