C-E Consecutive Interpretation Strategy From The Perspective Of Cultural Translation Theory

China has actively taken part in international affairs,playing an increasingly important role in international community.Meanwhile,the outside world is witnessing changes in China.Suzhou—a time-honored city that rejuvenates in the new era—has become a window for the outside world to know about China.This thesis selects the documentary Suzhou Water as the material of consecutive interpreting.This documentary retraces the history of Suzhou,explores the cultural connotations and showcases the strong bond between the past and present.The reason why it is selected lies in its value in promoting Chinses culture.The thesis consists of four parts: task description,task implementation,case study and conclusion.In the part of task description,the background information of the material and theoretical support are introduced.Cultural translation theories provide theatrical basis for the thesis,especially the theories of the leading expert of cultural translation studies Susan Bassnett and noted Chinese scholar Liu Miqing.Bassnett pointed out the basic unit in translation is culture and translation should break the limitation of discourse.Professor Liu Miqing stressed Culture Adaptability in translation and introduced two methods of cultural translation—imitation and compensation.In the part of task implementation,the process of the task and difficulties in interpreting are described.In the part of case study,the principles of interpreting and analysis of interpreting methods are illustrated with examples.In the last chapter,the rethinking of applying cultural translation theories into interpreting is included.It is hoped that this case study would be helpful to deal with other similar interpreting practice.
