To effectively facilitate the communication between the speaker and the audience, consecutive interpreters should convey information in a well-structured and concise manner. However, due to stress, time pressure or insufficient preparation, the quality of interpretation may drop, followed by reduced clarity and elongated time of interpreting. This paper aims to identify the most common issues contributing to wordiness in Chinese-English consecutive interpreting by analyzing the transcripts of author's interpretations and provide solutions that will help increase the level of conciseness in interpreters' delivery. These techniques might be especially useful for non-native English interpreters. |
