The paper is a report on the English-Chinese simulated consecutive interpreting of the speech “differences between Chinese and American education”. The speech was given by an American teacher who has been teaching in China for many years and has her own particular teaching philosophy. Besides, the audiences are three students who major in Journalism, Accounting and Ancient Chinese Language and Culture respectively. All of them have certain foundation in English. The report of the simulated consecutive interpreting is under the guidance of formal schemata, which is the component of Schema Theory. The remark given by the speaker is clear in thought, complete in structure and strong in logic, so the structure, content and the logical construction of the speech can be predicted reasonably under the guidance of formal schemata. The report is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is a brief introduction to this simultaneous consecutive interpreting. And the second chapter is task description, including the personnel and materials involved in, the process of the task and the task feedback. Besides, the third chapter in which the report makes an analysis of typical interpreting cases at the sentence level and textual level, with a special focus on the role of prediction based on formal schemata in the process of simulated consecutive interpreting. Besides, the paper also analyzes the cases of defects and gives suggestions for solving the problems. The last chapter is the conclusion of the experience the author gained in this interpreting practice.
