A Report On Translating The Articles Of Association Of Hong Kong Kunxun Imp&exp Co.,LTD

This report is based on the translation of the Articles of Association of Hong Kong KUNXUN Imp&Exp Co.,LTD.The author was assigned with this translation task during the internship at Beijing Giant Translation Co.,LTD.The source text belongs to the category of the legal document,which is characterized by its technical terms,semi-technical terms,long and complex sentences,and formal style.The commissioner raised three major requirements for the translator of this translation task.Firstly,the translated version should allow the Chinese branch to recognize the responsibilities and rights of the English version;secondly,it should facilitate the communication among shareholders;thirdly,the target text should be smooth and concise in style.The Articles of Association belongs to the category of the legal document,so its linguistic style is "Frozen",which is precise,formal and logical.As a result,the translation of such a document demands accuracy and profession from the translator.Before translation,the author searched into numerous parallel texts and analyzed the technical terms and complex sentence structures in the source text.According to the characteristics of legal language,the author adopted suitable translation strategies and followed the principle of functional equivalence.After translation,the author edited and proofread the target text to ensure its consistency and high quality.In this translation report,the author concluded the difficulties and relative solutions during the translation,for the sake of making a reference to the translation of such texts for other translators.The content of this translation report consists of five chapters:the first chapter demonstrates the introduction and requirements of this translation task;the second chapter illustrates the preparations the author made before translation,including the type of the source text,features of the text,parallel texts,translation tools and theoretical foundations;the third chapter is the main part of the translation report,focusing on case study,which the author explained the translation of words,sentences and style respectively;the fourth chapter is post-translation,including self-modification,editing,proofreading and quality assurance;the last chapter is the concluding part,which consists of limitations and corresponding solutions,lessons learned and a summary of the whole project.
