A Report On Website Documents E-C Translation Guided By Text Typology

With the development of computer science and information technology,information products developed in different countries need to serve people across boundaries of nationalities and languages.Thus the need of translation in this field is increasing.This report analyzed the author's translation of website documents of a company in information technology industry under the guidance of text typology theory.The source texts belong to Sci-Tech texts and thus the translation is a Sci-Tech translation,which is realistic and practicable.The report firstly gives a brief introduction to the translation process.Then the theoretical framework of the translation is summarized,in which text typology theory is introduced.Under the guidance of text typology theory,the source texts are mainly informative and operative,and informative text type is more dominant.The development of information technology is fast and fresh,and the words and phrases in the texts are "new" and "special".These "new" and "special" words and phrases have brought the biggest challenge and most of the difficulties to the author.The difficulties are mainly difficulties in translation of words and translation of phrases.Difficulties in translation of words lie in translation of common words with special meanings,semi-technical terms,technical terms,and new terms.Difficulties in translation of phrases focus on the phrases in ascending order,phrases in descending order,and compounds and initials.According to text typology theory,translation of informative texts should be plain,concise and accurate.Based on the summary of difficulties,proper translation methods are adopted.The translation methods are methods accepted through common practice,fait accompli translation method,imitation translation method,sequential word order translation method,conception transformation method,and combination of initials,etc.Through this translation practice,the author realizes that some useful translation methods raised by predecessors will help the improvement of the effectiveness and the quality of translation.Hence translators need to keep an eye on translation studies to master more methods and skills for better translations.Besides,translators can also be more experienced through summary of their own translation work.
