Lyric And Narrative:the Poetic Ethics Of Aamir Khan's Films

Indian films receive wide attention for its unique features in world film industries.With the increasing level of globalization in everyday life,international audience are getting more and more familiar with Indian films.Rooting in India's rich culture traditions and appealing to the aesthetic taste of Indian audience,Indian films have already formed an unique art style of lyric and narration and the combination of both.As one of India's most influential movie actors and producers,Aamir Khan successfully differentiated his film works from other Indian films by discussing social issues and concerning for disadvantaged groups.By the implementation of certain narrative methods and techniques,which create profound emotions on the characters and arouse strong emotions on the audience,Aamir Khan's films not only adopt the art style of lyric and narration,but also convey clear ethical values.This master thesis focuses on the lyrical,narrative and ethical features of Aamir Khan's films.In the first part,the narrative methods in Cinematic Storytelling,written by Jennifer Van Sijll,will be used to analyze the cinematic narration features of Aamir 's works,discussing how they combined lyric and narration in cinematic language and how they built emotion connections between the audience and characters.In the second part,ethical values behind each movie will be analyzed based on the principle of concrete analysis of concrete issues proposed by virtue ethics.Through elaborate analysis and research,it is concluded that Aamir Khan's film works generally convey positive poetic ethics as love and cherish life,respect and cultivate humanity.Nevertheless,prudence is still encouraged for audience and critics in accepting the ethical values of his movie works because not all values are ethically flawless and correct.
