Consecutive Interpreting Report Of Melt-Shop Plant Project Site Meeting

This report is based on the author's interpreting experience of site meetings of melt-shop plant project launched by Shanghai Metallurgical Equipment Group,three parties were involved including representative from SMC the buyer,representative from Danieli the technical adviser and representative from SME the seller.The interpreter is required to do consecutive interpreting to promote the communication between Chinese side and the foreign side on important issues on work place.The thesis is divided into six chapters.Chapter one is the introduction of metallurgy industry,including its background information,the requirements for interpreters and author's plan for the work.Chapter two is author's preparation work for the meeting,including gathering vocabularies,reading minute of meeting(MOM)from the past,consulting workmates and so on.Chapter three is the analysis of interpretation processes and the problems encountered with the solutions to address them.Chapter four is the explanation of instances under functional equivalence theory,the instances will be chosen from the transcripts of author's interpretation recordings.Chapter five includes the evaluation from the interpreter,colleague and customer.Chapter six is the summary of authors' interpreting work in this field and personal advice towards interpretation work in metallurgy industry.By integrating five meeting recording transcripts.Much mistakes have been noticed in interpretation such as grammar,tone,fluency,accuracy and so on.What's more,the terminologies in metallurgy,machinery and electrical had also posed great challenge to the author's performance.In order to promote interpretation and avoid mistakes,the author employed functional equivalence theory and other interpreting strategies like checking with the speaker,using PPT or drawings to illustrate the points.Through studying and analyzing the author's interpreting experience,many pragmatic suggestions and methods can be offered to the development of metallurgy interpretation.
