An E-C Translation Report On Long And Complex Sentences-An Excerption From Israel In The Second Iraq War:the Influence Of Likud

In today’s world,where peace and development are the main themes,there are still small areas that are suffering from war.After the first Gulf War between 1990 and 1991,the United States launched another war against Iraq in 2003,which is known as the second Gulf War.The war ended in 2011 and was widely concerned by peace-loving people around the world.Stephen C.Pelletiére’s Israel in the Second Iraq War: The Influence of Likud was born in this background.The book analyzes the Gulf War with 6 chapters from two levels.At the first level,it focuses on the two main hostile forces that directly involved in the war: the U.S.government that invaded Iraq and the Iraqi people who rose up in resistance,as well as their influence on the second Iraq war.The second level analyses the series of agreements signed by the U.S.government to win the second war in Iraq.The book holds that these agreements only caused the war to become bogged down.The United States failed.The writer translated the first part of the book,the introduction and the first chapter “The Ideologues” to reveal the realities of the war to the world.It is expected that peace is loved and safeguarded in the world.This report,based on a comparative of English and Chinese sentence,explored the differences between English long and sentences in this book and Chinese sentences as well as the translation of these sentences.It suggested that the translator should first have an accurate understanding of the original sentences,distinguishing of the structures in the sentences a long with the relationship between these structures.And then,translator was supposed to use various translation strategies such as linear translation,inverting the order,as well as proper handling of voices and substitutions in rendering.Only in this way,can the Chinese translation become faithful and readable.This report attempts to summarize the writer’s understanding on the translation and explore the translation methods can be used for rendering long and complex sentences inEnglish.It can enable the writer to understand the theory from the translation practice,and then understand translation practice under the guidance of theory,a cognitive process from practice to theory.It is also expected that this report is able to provide some practical example references for military English translation studies.
