C-E Translation Strategies Of Complex Sentences In Flavour Of Life

The source text of this project is Wang Han's Flavour of Life.It is a humanistic essay,recording the traditional culture and writing the life insight.In the text,there are a lot of complex sentences which are long and complicated with large amount of information.We choose three chapters from Flavour of Life which are Ciba,Oilcloth Umbrella and Feather Duster.According to their respective characteristics,on the basis of the original text,we divided those complex sentences into three categories: causal complex sentence,coordinate complex sentence and transitional complex sentence.Through we preliminarily analyze these three kinds of complex sentences,the causal complex sentences include causal complex sentences,hypothetical complex sentences,conditional complex sentences,purpose complex sentences.These complex sentences have complicated structures and rich contents.In order to clarify the sentence structure,we mostly applied reversion method and reorganization method.The coordinate complex sentences include compound complex sentences,coherent complex sentence,progressive complex sentence and selective complex sentence.These kinds of complex sentences with close logical relationship,through combination method and linear method can make the original structure and the logical relationship well be reproduced.Transitional complex sentence and concessive complex sentence are two types of the transitional complex sentence.When we translate the transitional complex sentence,we may use linear translation and division method.The practice proves that these five translation strategies can be instructive and profitable to the translation of the complex sentences in Flavour of Life,so as to make smooth and fluent translation accord with the characteristics of humanistic essay text.
