With the rapid development of China's civil aviation industry, translation plays an important role in the introduction of technology, equipment, talent, and management experience of civil aviation. This report is based on the translation process of Advisory Circular(AC-120-114)to discuss translation methods and translation techniques of civil aviation regulatory documents. This report firstly introduces the contents of the translation task and summarizes the translation difficulties by analyzing lexical features and syntactic patterns of source text to make relevant preparation on terminologies, translation tools and theories. In the process of translation, the translator found that the Advisory Circular is rigorous in language but flexible in wording. For example, the word “according to” has ten kinds of expressions in English source text.In addition, the sentences of source text are complex and flexible with passive and postpositive composition and often use modal verbs as predicates. This report classifies source text as an informative text based on the observed features of source text and demonstrates the feasibility of applying the three principles of skopos theory that are applicable to check the translation quality of target text.By means of summarizing lexical features and syntactic patterns, analyzing specific translation cases and reading relevant literature and theories, this report aims to explore the translation techniques such as shift translation, division translation, preposition translation, sequence translation of civil aviation regulatory documents and have certain reference value for translating such documents in the future.
