Perception Of Democracy-A Study On A Possible Category Of Indicators For Measuring Democracy

As an important symbol of modern political civilization and the effective mode of governance,democracy is widely considered as a "good thing",however,in terms of the definition of democracy itself as well as its measurement,disputes always exist in academia.In general,these differences are mainly stemmed from the core value of democracy,such as "equality","freedom" and "justice".Few scholars study democracy and its functioning process by focusing on the psychological experience and the perception of democracy.This dissertation will explore the core value of democracy" and then draw a definition circle for democracy.On this basis,a new political concept----Perception Of Democracy(POD)will be introduced.The introduction of this concept is an attempt to put the "psychological identity"and "experience of democracy" in a critical position to evaluate the good and bad of democratic politics.More interestingly,democracy,at the same time,will have been completed a possible "redefining process" and this will make the POD to be one of the most important reference variables to set up a new possible democratic evaluation system.Therefore,this dissertation will put aside the common western-style democracy evaluation standards such as "multi-party competition" and "political participation"and limit the view on the psychological level.Through comprehensive methods such as reasoning and literature analysis,the definition of POD and the research scope of it will be systematically expounded in the dissertation.Also,the existing reasons of POD as well as its practical significance will be explored before a preliminary discussion on the evaluation system of POD.
