A Study On The Social Support Of The Caregiver In The Old-age Care Institutions

With the increasing demand of socialized pension service,the care workers of the pension agencies have been given wide attention by the community.The social support construction for the caregivers of the pension agency is of great significance to the caregivers' own occupational activities,the development of the pension agency institutions as well as social pension service industry.This paper takes S institution as an example to make comparative analyses towards the social support for care works in four pension agencies and evaluate the status of social support for the caregivers in S institution by using the methods of questionnaire survey,interview and comparative analysis.It is concluded that the caregivers of the institution need more support from the institutional managers,the elder and their family,social organizations and social workers.In terms of social interaction,more communication platforms are required.In terms of spirit,the understanding and care from institutional administrators and the respect and cooperation from the elder and their family are required.In terms of technology,the knowledge of psychological nursing,rehabilitation nursing,laws and regulations and the related contents of rights and interests maintenance are required.In terms of system,the systems of promotion,reward and assessment are required.This paper,based on the advantages and resources that the care workers of S institution have already possessed and drawing lessons from successful practices of other institutions,uses the theory of social support,strength perspective and ecological perspective to determine the course of action on the social support construction for the caregivers.Through direct intervention,the developing group was founded.Communication platform was established for team members.The relationship between caregivers,the elder,and the institution managers was enhanced and the respect,understanding,care as well as the knowledge of rights and interests maintenance were obtained.Through indirect intervention,the promotion,reward and evaluation system of the caregivers were perfected,the contents of the “Dean Reception Day” were increased and the knowledge of psychological nursing was provided.After the intervention,the assessment found that the part of demand of thecaregivers in S institution had been implemented.The action strategy of the social support construction for the caregivers of the pension agency is proposed in the end of the paper.
