Practical Research On Improving Voluntary Service's Communication Skills Of College Students

In recent years,voluntary service of college students is playing an increasingly important role in the social construction.The home-based care service industry bring voluntary service of college students into it,too.However,there still exists a series of problems with college students' voluntary service,communication in elderly service is an prominent issue.It's really worth paying more attention to the bad service effect due to college students' poor communication skills.Therefore,this research will clarify the problems and causes in college students' voluntary service for the elderly and improve their communication skills with social work practical research.Then the methods and strategies of social work will be explored to improve the communication skills in voluntary service of college students.This research takes Nanjing Z Home Care Service Organization's college student volunteers as the object,they are all volunteers of Elderly Loving Music Project in Z organization.Using the method of questionnaire and semi-structred interview to investigate college student volunteers' communication situation with the elderly in their service.On the one hand,according to Spitzberg's category of communication skills and Ma Xiangtao's Interpersonal Communication Competence Scale for college students,we can understand the college student volunteers' existing problems in their communication skills,including communication cognitive,emotional communication,and communication skills.On the other hand,analyzing causes of the problems existing on the above three aspects.Through actual inspection,we found that college student volunteers have problems in low degree of communication cognitive,poor adaptability of emotional communication and lacking of communication skills,specifically for unwilling to communicate with the elderly and indifferent to communication etc..After the in-depth analysis,problems of their communication skills in voluntary service are not ouly related to the insufficiency of their own communication skills and the specificity of voluntary service objects,but also related to the organization and school's less attention to their communication skills,inadequate test and poor training effects training effect.Therefore,in order to solve the problems of college students' communication in voluntary service,this research selected six college students who have more serious communication problems as the main object to intervene,six elderly who accept the voluntary service as the assistant object.Using the development pattern of group working to implement service work practice on improving communication skills of college student volunteers.Through eight times group activities,including 'I know grandma and grandpa','Who am I?','Team l+1','How much about communication','Exposing communication skills with elderly','Different communication with elderly in activities','I'm good at communication with elderly','Sharing' to help college student volunteers deepen the understanding of the elderly and the communication with them,master communication skills with the elderly and improve the communication skills of college students' voluntary service.In short,through the assessment of social work practice process and effect,the research hold that development pattern of group work has indeed improved the communication skills of college students voluntary service,but the process still needed improvement.In addition,this research rethinks the methods,pattern and the role of social worker in the practical process.Finding that social worker should select appropriate practical methods based on mastering the problems and demands of service object before implementing practice process,and improve the practice process in the real time,full master social worker's role and function,then achieving the purpose of social work practice.
