With the rapid development of education and the improvement of education level,the gap increasingly becomes prominent between the quality of English teaching and the standard of English education claimed in the implementation of national quality education.The critical factor of enhancing the quality of English teaching is the growth of the professional quality of English teachers.As a result,the professional development of teachers becomes a hot issue focused by more educational researchers and in the meantime,as a bridge linking the professional development of teachers and the improvement of school education,teachers' cooperation comes into the filed of education reform and catches a lot of attention.However,there are many problems in the current cooperation of English teachers,such as serious formality,low efficiency,etc.These problems have already become the bottleneck constraining the quality of English teaching and the professional development of English teachers.Thus it is necessary to develop the research on English teachers' cooperation in depth.This study aims at exploring the current cooperation of junior high school English teachers in county M,identifying their awareness and attitudes towards cooperation,practices of cooperation in their daily teaching,and their opinions about issues concerning cooperation,so as to find out the existing problems and put forward coping strategies for enhancing the real and effective cooperation of English teachers in junior high school and offering reference for further study on the cooperation of English teachers.Previous studies have shown that real and effective cooperation can facilitate the professional development of English teachers and improve the quality and efficiency of English teaching.In this research,58 English teachers from 5 junior high schools in county M are selected as participants.Via literature retrieval and by the research methods such as questionnaire,interview,and observation to collect materials,the author attempts to solve thefollowing questions:(1)Have the English teachers of junior high school got cooperation in practical teaching? If they have,in what ways do they cooperate?(2)What attitude have the English teachers in junior high school got towards cooperation?(3)What are the existing problems and constraints during the English teachers' cooperation and why?After analyzing the materials collected in the process,the author draws conclusions as follows: First of all,the English teachers of junior high school have got cooperation in practical teaching and the ways of cooperation can be divided into two groups: organizational cooperation and non-organizational cooperation.Organizational cooperation contains the collective preparation for lessons,expert coaching in teaching,observing and evaluating the classes mutually,open classes,and teaching and research activities.Non-organizational cooperation contains free conversation and online communication.In addition,the majority of English teachers of junior high school have the awareness of cooperation and hold optimistic attitudes towards cooperation.However,there is a wide gap between cognition and behavior.As a consequence,a lot of cooperation becomes a mere formality and lacks of efficiency.The constraints existing in the English teachers' cooperation primarily include the heavy tasks sparing no time for their regular cooperation,the unsound evaluation mechanism and support system for cooperation,the lack of cooperative environment in junior high school and cooperative motivation in teachers.As a result,the author puts forward the following strategies for enhancing the cooperation:(1)Constructing the cooperative teachers' culture to provide a better cooperative environment for English teachers' cooperation.Teachers' culture is an important part of the school culture in that it can be a positive driving force for the school to achieve the over-all development of students and professional development of teachers in their career.(2)Selecting appropriate ways of cooperation.Appropriate ways of cooperation is the foundation of real and effective cooperation.Only in the ways of cooperation appropriate for English teachers can they participate in the cooperation actively and positively so that the real cooperation can be realized.(3)Elaborately designing the contents of cooperation to optimize the process of cooperation between English teachers.The contents of cooperation are key factors to influence the success of cooperation.Effective cooperative contents can motivate thepositiveness of English teachers in the cooperation so that they can form a strong community of cooperation where gathers the wisdom and experience of all the English teachers.
