The Foundation Education Course Reform Outline(a trial version in 2001) proposes the educational concept of taking students as the main body and teachers as the leading factor and strives to change teachers' teaching approaches and students' learning styles. Playing games is human's nature and a way of existence. It plays a very significant and valuable role in promoting the development of people's cognition, emotion and sociability. And the game teaching method can fully embody the subjectivity of students in the teaching process and enable students to truly participate in the teaching activities. Applying games to biology teaching can make teaching start from the interest of students and combine the entertainment and cognition, which induces the students to actively participate in learning, stimulates students' enthusiasm in learning,exercising skills and sublimating emotion, and develops students' autonomy, initiative and creativity. This method is coincident with the nature of children and adapts to the development of children. In addition, the ultimate goal of education is to promote the development of people(the essence is the development of human subjectivity). Therefore, applying games to teaching activities is of great value.Firstly, this paper defines the concept of the game and the game teaching method, and discusses the related theories which support this teaching method. Secondly, on the basis of the game teaching theory and practice, the paper discusses the design, implementation and evaluation of the teaching method in biology teaching. And according to the characteristics of students and different subjects, the game types are summarized and classified which mainly includes role-playing games, constructive play, simulation games, mathematical games, word games, art games, watch games and so on. Thirdly, this paper evaluates the teaching effect of the teaching method by analyzing the data collected and investigated during the teaching practice in class one and four, grade eight in Linyi Foreign Language School. The results show that the game teaching method not only improves the students' achievement and interest in biological study, but also promotes the development of students' subjectivity. Finally, this paper reflects on the application of the game teaching method in biology teaching and we need to put more efforts in future on how to continuously improve and perfect the game teaching model and promote thestudents' learning efficiency and interest. The research conclusion of this paper is that the game teaching method can change the way of teaching and learning, improve the effect of biological teaching and promote the development of students' subjectivity. The author expects that this study can make contributions to the development of the game teaching in theory and practice and the designed game teaching cases could be utilized as the teaching reference for biological teachers.
