With the development of economic globalization,English plays an important role in the international arena,and people pay more attention to English Teaching.Speaking of the English Teaching,we have to mention the English teaching materials.The English teaching materials are the main ways of exchanging knowledge between teachers and students in the English class.And the teaching materials greatly influence the teachers' teaching achievements and the learning process of students.What kind of teaching materials we choose,and how the materials are used in the area are main problems which schools and educators are concerned about.In this paper,the background,purpose and significance of the study are introduced first.Next,the history and development of English teaching materials evaluation,methods and dimensions,and content and standard of teaching materials evaluation at home and abroad are summarized.Taking Tang Fang Zhen Middle School of Feng Nan District,Tangshan City,Hebei Province as an example,I carry on the questionnaire survey to all the students and English teachers.Each questionnaire contains 20 questions.And the student's questionnaire includes six dimensions: the learning situation of students,the general view of the students to the teaching material,students' evaluation of teaching content,language knowledge and language skills,students' evaluation of teaching task design,and students' evaluation of teachers' teaching methods.The teacher's questionnaire includes seven dimensions: the general view of the teachers to the teaching material,teachers' view on the teaching of language knowledge and language skills,teachers' view of the teaching contents,teachers' evaluation of design of activities in the materials,teachers' degree of suitability to the teaching materials,teachers' view on the level of organization,teachers' view on the supporting materials.And I also have interviews on the English teachers.According to the data and results analysis,I can achieve in Tang Fang Zhen Middle School,the students' and English teachers' usage conditions to this teaching material.Theproblems of using this teaching material in the course of our school are mainly in listening and reading.So we can put forward some opinions and suggestions in the process of using materials of the teachers and students in rural areas of Tangshan City.
