The present is a rapid development of science and technology culture,competition is fierce era, its main performance in the innovative talented person’s competition, and innovative thinking is the important factors influencing the innovation ability and practice ability, so we’re going to small began to cultivate the students’ innovative thinking and hands-on ability. With the development of art education in our country, various schools of art teaching is also more and more attention. In teaching how to cultivate student’s image thinking, creativity, expression is important way to improve students’ innovative thinking and practical ability. Clay sculpture as a traditional Chinese folk art, its visibility, desirability, and shape aesthetic, can to people’s practice ability, creative thinking ability, aesthetic ability and so on carries on the training, and a kind of polymer materials as the clay sculpture,its plasticity, colorful, convenient and safe health, easier to use in clay sculpture class teaching. In art class teaching more convenient implementation and management,with ease, maneuverability, security, etc., soft pottery class not only can enrich the teaching forms and also can for the students’ innovative thinking and ability to provide an opportunity to practice, is more advantageous to promote coordinated development of students body and mind, the body of the people, creativity in cultivating the student beginning ability, play to students’ imagination, to improve students’ aesthetic ability and so on has the extremely important role. Teaching as an example, this paper will with teaching to the cultivation of students innovative thinking and hands-on ability.In this paper, from the understanding and awareness of the creative thinking for the analysis of art education and innovative thinking, from the cultivation of students innovative thinking the status duo at home and abroad compared to the analysis of innovative thinking in the teaching of primary school in conditions; Second, from soft clay to elementary school and to study the influence of innovative thinking, analyzes the relations between polymer clay teaching and innovative thinking; From how to cultivate pupils’ ability of teaching means, by method to foster the creative thinking are discussed.
