The teacher in rural areas is the key factor to influence the quality of education, and low work enthusiasm will have a direct influence on the improvement of quality and the advancement of balanced development of the compulsory education. There are lots of factors which are influencing the work enthusiasm of teachers, and the relative deprivation plays an important role in teachers'work enthusiasm. There are a lot of studies on relative deprivation and the work enthusiasm of teachers in rural areas, but they concentrated on the intergroup relative deprivation. There is little study on teachers'relative deprivation and its impact on their work enthusiasm. The main research methods of this study are documentation and questionnaires. On the basis of literature review, the research investigates the teachers in 6 primary and secondary schools in S county of L province. Given the occupation comparison between two groups of teachers in urban and rural areas, according to relative deprivation theory, this study chooses the teachers in urban areas as the reference group, and researches the relative deprivation of teachers in rural areas from the material gains, development opportunities and social status; and researches the work enthusiasm of teachers in rural areas from the dimensions of purpose, planning, persistence and reflection. Through the statistics and analysis of data on the relative deprivation and the work enthusiasm of teachers in rural areas, this study analyzes the current situation of teachers in rural areas, and explores the relationship between relative deprivation and work enthusiasm. The study found that there are significant differences between different relative deprivation levels of teachers in rural areas, and the teachers with lower work enthusiasm have stronger relative deprivation. At the same time, the relative deprivation has significant negative impact on teachers'work enthusiasm, the stronger relative deprivation is, the lower work enthusiasm is. Based on the findings, we put forward the countermeasures to reduce the relative deprivation and raise the work enthusiasm of teachers in rural areas.
