Play is the life of children. Outdoor play is an integral part of the healthy growth of children. A series of national policies, programmatic documents provided two hours a day for outdoor activities, which, one hour for sports. Then, how did kindergarten work out in practice? How did kindergarten use outdoor space and ground? Are outdoor play equally guaranteed as outdoor sports? Through questionnaire method, natural observation method, interview method and case analysis method, this paper investigates the current situation of kindergarten outdoor activities to know the realization of play function, motor function and teaching function in our country. And it also discussed the value of play function through construction play and role play. The results showed that sports is the most fluently and longest lasting activity, the highest utilization rate of sports areas and materials. Thus, kindergarten outdoor activity ground is mainly for sports, only play motor function, and ignore its play function, teaching function and other functions. However, we found that there are more benefits of outdoor play than indoor play. Outdoor construction play can enrich children's life experience, enhance the purpose of construction and cultivate cooperation consciousness. Likewise, Outdoor role play can reflect children's experience all aspects, induce a large number of alternative behaviors and improve their cooperation ability.The authors put forward some suggestions accordingly:kindergarten should pay attention to outdoor play and the play function of outdoor activity ground; indoor games and outdoor games should be carried out alternately; provide outdoor play clothing equipment for children; create an open, independent, rich wild outdoor ground is necessary, therefore, it should preserve the natural original features of the outdoor area, support different kinds of play, provide a large number of natural objects and waste materials, and let the children master the autonomy of outdoor play.
