The composition teaching is an important content of Chinese teaching in primary school and the core of composition teaching is to cultivate students' writing ability.The composition teaching for senior elementary students(grade 5-grade 6)is not only the last stage of the composition teaching of primary school,but also a transition phase of the junior middle school composition teaching.Although Chinese teaching in elementary school generally aims to coordinate the development of students' listening,speaking,reading and writing,composition teaching mainly focuses on training students' writing ability because students do not have exposure to composition until they enter schools and the difficulty in writing is in a high degree for these students.Thus,students' writing ability is worse than listening,speaking and reading ability.Writing not only has the reinforcement on reading,but also has certain level of normative function on speaking.With the implementation of the new curriculum reform,there are many changes in composition teaching for elementary students.However,there are still many problems existing in elementary composition teaching according to the feedback of teachers and the analysis of questionnaires.Based on these problems and the reasons,the author proposes correspondent solutions in this paper.In this paper,literature review,questionnaire and interview are used as research methodology to study the current situation of composition teaching in Chinese elementary school.The author in this paperholds the view that the current composition teaching for senior elementary students still has the following problems.For the part of teachers: firstly,composition teaching has no relation to students' lives.Secondly,reading and writing are separated.Thirdly,composition teaching is lack of effectiveness.Fourthly,composition comments are short of pertinence.For the part of students: firstly,students are not interested in writing.Secondly,the writing materials are not enough.Thirdly,the part of writing contents are out of authenticity.Fourthly,the communication on composition between students is not sufficient.For the part of textbook:the guidance in textbook is with little usefulness,etc.Combined with the problems of composition teaching in elementary school,the paper analyzes the reasons of these problems from the view of teachers,students and textbook.Based on these results of investigation,corresponding educational solutions are put forward: first of all,Chinese teachers in elementary schools should play an important role and have advanced thoughts in composition teaching in order to let students express the true feelings freely and lead them to accumulate materials for writing,mobilize non-intelligence factors of students,motivate students' needs and interest in writing composition and optimize training contents of composition teaching.Thus the main problems existing in primary school students' compositions can be solved.Secondly,the students should form scientific writing consciousness,establish right writing ideas and develop good writing habits.Last but not least,we should use the textbook flexibly and creatively.All of these will solve the problems of “no words to say”,“no willingness to say” and “no ways to say” by the joint efforts of teachers and students.Meanwhile,the author gives some examples on composition teaching and students writing works in the process of listing the measures for composition teaching insenior elementary schools.
