GIS, which developed in the mid of 1960 s, is used as a tool to solve the geographical problem. With long-term developments, GIS has become an interdisciplinary science which integrates multiple disciplines including geography,geomatics, environmentology and computer science. It has been widely applied to various aspects in working and life. In the field of education, geographic information technology plays a significant role in the geographical assisted teaching for senior high school, which cannot be replaced by the traditional instruction means.Introducing GIS fundamental education to the high-school geographical classrooms will improve teacher's professional quality, put the basic concept of quality-oriented education into practice, and will act as one of essential approaches to enhance students' geographical learning outcomes. Due to various causes, GIS has not been brought in the geographical teaching practice in a large scale for senior high school,which will lead to a negative impact on the increase of students' comprehensive abilities in geography and will hinder the progress of modernization and informatization for teaching method. Therefore, it is essentially significant to discuss how to connect the GIS fundamental education with high-school geographical learning in an organic way.The purpose of this paper is to study how to employ GIS in the geographical teaching practice for high school. Firstly, I identified the research idea and methods by referring back to the research achievements contributed by the predecessors. In the meanwhile, I organized and summarized the current application status for GIS at home and abroad. Then I carried out relative research on the base of constructivism and multiple intelligence theory. Selecting typical material close to the students' real life and geographical textbook, I apply GIS to the inquiry learning of the local geography, to assist the location selection of agricultures and analysis the natural factors which influence the spatial distribution for Chinese populations. With all these instances, I have presented to students how the GIS serves as a new, high-efficient assisted teaching method in high-school geographical classrooms by its spatial analysis function.In conclusion, the paper analyzes the main obstacles which hinder the introduction of GIS to the high-school geographical classrooms with relevant application research. Also, it has put forward proper improvement measures and suggestions for school, front-line geographical teachers, concerned social organizations and education decision makers, which will bring about bright prospects for GIS to popularize the application in fundamental education.
