Research On Evolution Of Junior Geographical Curriculum In Our Fundamental Education

The development of Geography Curriculum is subjected to the ones of society, economics and culture. The evolution of Syllabus (or the Curriculum Standard) is a reflection of that of Geography Curriculum. The standard of judging a person's quality is changed by knowledge economics in the modern world. In the midst, curriculum plays an important role in bringing up person. Geography Curriculum has to be reformed in junior high school in order to meet quality education and social development, under the background of which, the Curriculum Standard replaces the Syllabus.By retrospection of the Geography Syllabus in junior high school, the comparison between the Curriculum Standard and the Syllabus, and integration of other countries experience, the paper discusses the geographic curriculum evolution comprising objective to curriculum, content of curriculum, arrangement for curriculum, curriculum evaluation, exploitation of curriculum resources etc. It also analyses the achievements and problems of Geography Curriculum at the fundamental education stage, especially the changes and reflections brought about by the using of Geography Curriculum Standard.It can be seen from the substitution of Geography Curriculum Standard for Geography Syllabus that it is not simply a title change, but also a conceptual one. These new concepts are reflected through the implementation of the Geography Curriculum and the transfer of viewpoints on teachers and students. In experimental areas, some favorable changes are found through the implementation of the Geography Curriculum, and in the meanwhile there still exist some problems because of the limitation of objective conditions and the deficiencies in Geography Curriculum Standard itself. In order to meet the social needs, Geography Curriculum Standard still must be modified and perfected.
