Counselors are engaged in moral education of colleges and universities, are the backbone of the development of the ideological and political education of college students, and are the leader and guide of the healthy growth of college students. In March 2014, the Ministry of Education issued the "high school counselors' professional ability standard(Provisional)", which the first time to establish a relatively independent knowledge and theoretical system of the instructor's occupation. Enhance the counselors' professional capacity and strengthen the counselors' team building is an important organizational guarantee and long-term mechanism to strengthen and improve the ideological and political education of college students, and to maintain the stability of colleges. It's meaningful to fully implement the party's education policy, to put the policy of College Students' Ideological and political education into practice, and to help students grow talent.In this study, higher vocational college counselors in Gansu province as the research object, through the questionnaire survey of 119 counselors of five higher vocational colleges in Gansu Province and interviews of some higher vocational colleges in charge of students work, understanding the present situation of the vocational college counselors' professional ability in Gansu Province. It's provides a realistic basis for Higher Vocational Colleges in Gansu Province to adjust and improve the counselor management system and implement the "ability standard" and has a positive promoting role to promote the counselor team construction in higher vocational colleges in Gansu province in professional development.This paper is divided into five parts. The first part is the introduction, which describes the research background and the problems cause, and the purpose and significance of the research, the existing research literature is summarized, and the research methods and ideas are pointed out. The second, three parts with data collected from the questionnaire survey as the basis, statically analyzing the basic situation of counselors in higher Vocational Colleges in Gansu province, understanding the "ability standard", status of professional ability, and its ascension condition. The results showthat: most of the counselors' professional ability has been greatly improved, but the overall occupational stress is relatively high, and the current career development satisfaction is not high; The number of each class level should be at this level are significantly more than the number of actual title for the level, practical professional ability is almost the same level with the best ability, and has a certain disparity with the should be level; The most qualified for the ability to work is in accord with the most adept ability, the most need to improve the capacity in contrast to the best ability,practical in charge of the work and professional ability situation is consistent, and practical work determines the improvement of the professional ability.On the basis of the second and the three parts, the fourth part analyzes the main problems existing in the promotion of the professional ability of higher vocational Colleges in Gansu province, and analyzes the main reasons of the problems. The fifth part is the summary and reflection of the whole research, and draws a conclusion based on the results of quantitative research and qualitative research; the relevant countermeasures and suggestions are put forward for the promotion of Vocational College Counselors' professional ability and the professional construction and development of the counselors in Gansu province.
