Higher vocational education is one form of higher education in China and it belongs to the vocational education. In China, the Business and Economics Department has been established in the majority of higher vocational colleges. With the increasing severe condition of enrollment and employment and enterprises' higher requirements about college students' capability,it is an urgent task for the majority of business and economics majors who are comparatively weak in terms of degree to optimize professional ability cultivation system of business and economics majors with the purpose of improving their professional ability. Therefore, based on the competence theory, the author tries to structure a set of reasonable and effective professional ability model system which is designed for business and economics majors of higher vocational colleges. The author interviewed 13 excellent graduates majoring in Business and Economics within 4 years after their graduation. After learning and researching the achieved research findings, the author, with the help of the iceberg theory, tries to structure the professional ability cultivation model system of Business and Economics majors of higher vocational colleges from both visible and invisible aspects. The system includes one visible first-class index and one first-class invisible index. The former includes 3 first-class indexes, namely, basic ability, physical and mental characteristics, and professional skills,as well as 11 second-class indexes. The latter includes 3 first-class indexes, namely, moral traits, development capability and social capability,as well as 18 second-class indexes. The table covers 29 indexes.Adopting the experts' investigation weighting method, the author invited 10 experts to weigh second-class indexes and first-class ones and then set 6 first-class indexes and 29 second-class ones. The first-class indexes include 18%(basic capability),13.5%(physical and mental characteristics),13.5%(professional ability),18.5%(moral traits),21.5%(development ability)and 15%(social ability).According to the above-mentioned weighting method, the author concludes that the percentage weighting of visible professional ability differs that of invisible one in regards to professional ability of Business and Economics majors of higher vocational colleges. The percentage of the former is 45%,while 55%of the latter.Taking A Higher Vocational College for example, the author made out the research questionnaires based on the professional ability cultivation model system of business and economics majors, which was designed on the basis of the competence theory. Then, the author executed systematic research on 591 Business and Economics majors of the A Higher Vocational College, who were composed of freshmen,second-year students and senior students.Afterwards, taking the percentage weighting into consideration, the author concludes that the total score of those students is 3.90 and lists the top ten indexes and the last ten ones in the whole 29 indexes. Moreover, the author observes that invisible indexes are more than visible indexes in the top ten ones, while visible indexes are more in the last ten indexes. In addition, the author analyzed the influence of three factors such as grade, gender, and title on the research on the difference of those majors' professional ability.According to the result of estimating professional ability of Business and Economics majors of A Higher Vocational College, the author put forward with the optimization project of professional ability cultivation system in terms of three aspects including talents cultivation project, teaching power of Business and Economics departments and majors. Finally, the author puts forward with research findings and suggestions as follows:adjusting the teaching mode and inspiring study passion to improve professional ability;optimizing curriculum and ensuring teaching quality to improve professional ability;paying close attention to practical teaching to improve professional ability;holding and participating in major-related skills competitions to improve professional ability;relying on training channels to improve professional ability;integrating employment and entrepreneurship guidance and establishing professional-ability-cultivation supervision system.
