Since 2012, the rapid development of massive open online courses(MOOC) has made noticeable influence on global education. With high quality teaching resources and brand-new learning model, MOOC has ignited the enthusiasm and interest of learners. Currently, China has actively carried out exploration and practice for MOOC, and its building has stepped into a stage of stable growth. However, the integration and transformation of MOOC advantages into available teaching resources for improving teaching quality remains one of the major problems yet to be resolved in universities. The small private online course(SPOC), a teaching model combining MOOC and classroom instruction, could be a bold but positive attempt of reform in higher education.In this paper, the efficient SPOC teaching model applicable to college course teaching was explored and designed following the principle of “Theoretical Research-Model Design-Model Specification-Practice Testing-Model Perfection”.Firstly, the construction of SPOC teaching model based on the theory of blended learning and real-time teaching, the creation of teaching environment connecting internal and external classroom, and the formation of general application framework through methods of three cycles and five dimensions were completed. The implementation steps were also discussed combining the present status of university teaching, which can provide comprehensive guidance for the teaching practice and development of SPOC in different colleges. Furthermore, the SPOC teaching model was actually applied to university classrooms and the executing process and evaluation results were discussed in detail. According to the subject characteristics of data structure, the integration of educational technology and subject pedagogy was also conducted in depth during the teaching practice. Finally, the attitudes and perceptions of students for SPOC were obtained through questionnaires, interviews, and observation. The results confirm the significance of SPOC teaching. Meanwhile, depending on student feedback, the SPOC was tailored and perfected to keep it close to actual student needs.This study has some practical application value, facilitating the transformation of MOOC from simple online session to innovative campus curriculum and instruction. It also has certain reference significance for the research of teaching model and teaching reform in universities under internet supported context.
