Under the background of diversified new media, the new way of reading makes people reshape the understanding of traditional reading in a certain degree. Extracurricular reading with the new media carrier violently expands student's study way and break through the restriction of reading. However, the effectiveness of the new media is also a double-edged sword for kid's childhood and hid many crises, the traditional reading as child's basic cognitive skills suffered a severe test. The physical and mental development of primary school students is not mature. They are in the key period of development, cognitive ability improving and good reading habits culturing. Therefore, the most significant thing for teachers is to guide students' extracurricular reading correctly under the background of new media.This paper takes the middle grade pupils as the research object. At first, the domestic and international trends and the same field of research are reviewed, and then the definition and explanation of some key concepts in this paper are defined. Supported by basic theories, the author carried out an action study to investigate the current situation about students' extracurricular reading under the background of new media, by using participation observation,questionnaire and individual interview. The dissection of the main problems was based on the data information and the specific actuality of the extracurricular reading guidance. Research stars from how to play the advantages of new media reading environment to avoid the negative effects. It explores the extracurricular reading guidance strategy with multiple dimensions. The research uses these strategies to carry out action research activities, and then adjust the next action according to the students' practical feedback and constant reflection. This study integrates the characteristics of extracurricular reading instruction and new media background,to test the effectiveness of teachers correct and scientific extracurricular reading guidance under the new media background through practical action.
