The traditional teaching methods almost fail to achieve the teaching targets in this changeable era. It is no exception that political education in Chinese senior high schools adopts traditional cramming method, which inevitably leads to some loss of enthusiasm,initiative and effectiveness among students. Therefore, it is imperative to reform the traditional teaching methods. The Reform Program for Basic Curriculums issued by the Ministry of Education precisely points out that the reform of teaching method aims to change the traditional teaching mode of overly emphasized passive study, rigid recitation and mechanical training. Discussion-oriented teaching method epitomizes the modern concept of education, and an approach to the cultivation of creative talents and thoughts.Discussion-oriented teaching method gives full play to the dominant role among students in teaching process, stimulates students' awareness of discovering questions, independent participation, improves their enthusiasm, initiative and creativity in learning political lessons,trains their abilities of analyzing, thinking and understanding social political reality,even helps them to foster correct overlooks on the world, life and values. However,discussion-oriented teaching method have not been widely used in political education in senior high schools. Even some applications witness success in some way, problems remain exist in it. Therefore, the further discussion on the discussion-oriented teaching method in political education has its theoretical and practical significance.This paper studies on the discussion-oriented teaching method on the basis of basic principles of Marxist dialectical materialism and historical materialism, applies various methods include literature analysis, questionnaire investigation, case analysis and the method of education observation. The basic ideas and framework of this paper involve four aspects:First, I presented brief reasons on the selection of this topic and discuss the weak points of the former research by referring to domestic and foreign relevant research findings Second, I made an academic analysis on the discussion-oriented teaching method in political education, trying my best to understand its relevant connotations, steps, pros and cons. Third, I made an objective evaluation on the current applied discussion-oriented teaching method for further improvement of relevant measures, thus enhancing its effectiveness.The innovation of this paper lies in the comprehensive application of document analysis method, questionnaire method, case analysis method and educative observation method,which also puts forward some countermeasures and ways to perfect the discussion-basedmethod of the ideological and political class of high school through to transform teaching conception, strengthen faculty, construct harmonious relationship and enrich discussed styles so as to discussion-based method can widely and effectively use in ideological and political class of high schools.
