School assignment can be called “the most familiar stranger”. It is the most important part of course and is an important factor for realizing course objectives; it is the intermediate link of connecting curriculum implementation and curriculum evaluation together, which most teachers and students will meet almost every day. In China, assignment burden problem has always been a hot topic in research of education. How to realize the best balance between assignment burden and assignment effect, and how to improve the quality of assignment design and stimulate students' interest and so on has also been a problem urgently to be solved in education teaching practice. Therefore, this study attempts to find out characteristics and successful experience of school assignment of language subjects in the middle schools of New Zealand for reference.The theory basis of this study is exploration teaching and multiple intelligences. Combined with language learning objectives in curriculum which New Zealand ministry put out, this study uses the method of questionnaire and interview to know about assignment time, assignment burden and effect, assignment objectives, assignment types, the way of doing assignment, assignment correcting and evaluation of language subjects in the middle schools of New Zealand. It also uses the method of text analysis to figure out the characteristics and experiences of language assignment from English and Chinese task, gaining more education ideas behind students' assignment. Finally, research conclusion is summarized and reference significance of language assignment design and implementation is put forward.There are four research goals in this paper. Firstly, know the situation and characteristics of language subject assignment in the middle schools of New Zealand. Secondly, provide clues which are useful for promoting assignment ideas and education ideas transferred in China. Thirdly, find out some methods or experience about language assignment design and implementation. Last but not least, provide certain reference significance for burden reducing policy and curriculum reform in China.
