Research On Karl Jaspers' Philosophy Thoughts Of University Education

In the twentieth century,Karl Jaspers is one of the representatives of existentialism in Germany,who has an important theoretical contribution in the field of medicine,psychopathology,history,philosophy and education,etc.The modern age calls for "the whole man " of university education,the inner logical of which needs understanding and communication between everyone.Jaspers' philosophy thoughts of university remain to be studied further.This article is based on the phenomenology and existentialism foundation of Jaspers.Through the axis thoughts of understanding and communication and methods including literature,history and text analysis,we analyze Jaspers' philosophy thoughts of university.The main point of his thoughts is forming "the whole man" and exploring the truth,which enlightened our university development.Specifically,this article mainly includes the following aspects of content:Firstly,a university is an academic community for teachers and students to pursue the truth.Jaspers' reflection and critique of history and reality and care of human and university constitutes the foundation of his philosophy thought of university education.Through tracing back to the historical background of the formation of Jaspers' idea of the university,his personal life experiences and the basis of his theory:phenomenology and existentialism,this part specifically explains Jaspers' conception of the nature,functions,teachers and students of the university.Secondly,understanding is the logical starting point for university to develop "the whole man".By combining the methodology of understanding which Jaspers has used in his phenomenological psychology with the philosophy thoughts of education in the whole university,this part analyse the possibility,limitation,necessity and significance of understanding.Understanding plays an important role in obtaining scientific mode of thinking and shaping spiritual life,which can help us understanding who we are and what the world is.In this thesis the author try to explore the elements of comprehension:love,respect,genuine and communication.Thirdly,Spiritual communication is a necessary path to pursue the truth.Considering university as a community between teacher and student to pursue the truth,this thesis will define what the spiritual communication is and identify its types on the basis of Jaspers'classification of communication in his existential philosophy.The desire of knowledge,the develop of education activity and the character of spiritual life in the university need heart to heart communication.This thesis attempts to find the realization conditions of spiritual communication in university:whole understanding,awareness of equality,teacher's authority and free environment.Going back to the historical mission and taking today's responsibility of university,the last part will rethink the value of Jaspers' philosophy of university education.The significance of Jaspers' philosophy thought to the development of university is:developing "the whole man" and pursuing for truth,promoting the cooperation of teaching and scientific research of university,advocating the Socrates teaching method for the interaction between teachers and students,which all based on the core spirit of understanding and spiritual communication in university.
