With the policy suggestions about deepening medical and health system reform, the promotion and the development of medical social work in the country has become the inevitable trend. Nowadays, medical social work has been carried out in the most of Shanghai hospitals. In order to promote the development of medical social work, discussing of the role and the role practice of the medical social worker has been the main research issues.In the process of the development of medical social work, the ward visiting service has become the important work of every medical social worker. The development of ward visiting service is not only the most important means of medical social worker enter into the hospital, it's also the important method of medical social work to carry out the service directly.The ward visiting service in Shanghai C hospital has carried out for many years, and it has become the key work of medical social workers. Through the literature reading, the author has combined with the her own practical experience, and focused on the role of social work practice, in order to analysis the role of medical social workers practice in the ward visiting service by the framework of the role practice process.Research finding that in the process of the ward visiting service, the medical social workers were viewed as the mood dredge, psychological treatment, ward event planners and implementers, the healers and consultants, supporters and volunteers by the medical workers, patients and their families. Meanwhile, the medical social workers saw themselves as professional service providers, needs assessment, communicators, resource links, participate in patient rehabilitation program makers. In spite of these results, there are the gap and distance between the role expectations and the role practice. The author analyses the cause of this phenomenon, and tries to give some suggestions on the basis of the results.
