The Republic of China is a special historical period during which the calligraphy education,including the use of textbooks development of great importance.The experience is worth exploiting for us today.This thesis based on the calligraphy education status of the Republican period and explores into textbooks building mainly from the pedagogical idea,model and future direction.We found the calligraphy textbooks in this period was mainly teaching students how to write Chinese characters.The teaching objectives was for the normalization and proficiency conform to the level of productive forces which is different from the traditional calligraphy education that have to pass the imperial examinations or reached a higher skills as personal.This shows traditional calligraphy education ideal is quite different from the ideal in republic of china.It is the main content of this thesis to analysis the development of introductory textbooks in this period.We found that the construction and development of the textbooks are influenced by the following factors:?.The textbook compilation was mainly from examine&approval and national designation in parallel which cannot ensure the government's powerful input,and in this situation it formed a relatively free and relaxed environment at that time.Meanwhile,the quality of these textbooks was quite differently because of most textbook compilation hosted by big private booksellers.?.There are different ways in calligraphic teaching during this time.The usage of textbooks in schools was not only restricted by various systems of the national education administration,but also influenced by social requirements.Old-style private education continued the previous pattern,and there is no new requirement for the textbooks.The way of teaching by the calligrapher or studying from the elder generation is not definite,it is mainly based on calligraphy learning genre as the main way to select the textbooks.From the aspect of history,the contribution of calligraphy in the period of the Republic of China is revealed as follow:Firstly,it has been founded the framework of calligraphy.Secondly,it has been strengthen the educational idea of combining children's reading and writing skill.Thirdly,it has been adopted the teaching steps of the method of character analysis widely.And increased the compiling quality of classified copybook,then,made it more standardized.Drawing lessons from history,we can get some enlightenment from the calligraphy textbooks in the entry stage :Firstly,the content of calligraphy textbooks compile and the student's reading and teaching skill should have synchronism.Because the current students may have some problem in the transform of simplified body,so in the entry stage,we should take large of inheritance words in Chinese teaching as the mainly teaching content as far as possible,then from propagation to simplicity gradually to reduce the burden of reading memory.Secondly,appealing the contemporary calligraphy master to join in the construction activities which is faced to the elementary education of calligraphy textbooks in order to increase the specialized and scientificalness of the calligraphy textbooks' compile.finally,we should see the limit of calligraphy textbooks in the republic of China which is based on imitation.It is suggested that we can add more content which can induce the children's creative interest and some creative common sense in calligraphy aspect.
